💻 MX Linux 23: A Groundbreaking New Release with Amazing Enhancements

MX Linux, the renowned Debian-based distro, is back with a bang! The latest release, MX Linux 23 – codenamed Libretto – promises to elevate the desktop experience even further. With its elegant and efficient desktop interface, MX Linux has always been a top pick for many users. And now, with a slew of new improvements, it is all set to take the Linux world by storm.

🆕 MX Linux 23: What’s New?

MX Linux 23, which is based on the latest Debian 12 ‘Bookworm’, features the long-term supported Linux Kernel 6.1 LTS as its foundation. The AHS edition, meant for newer hardware, boasts the use of Linux Kernel 6.4. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as there’s a lot more to explore.

Improved Installer

The installer in MX Linux 23 now supports ‘swapfiles’ in addition to swap partitions. Plus, the ‘regular’ installation mode automatically defaults to swapfiles. Some other noteworthy changes include various GUI tweaks, a debconf value for easier legacy grub-pc updates, fixes for grub bootloader installation, and more.

Desktop Environment Upgrades

The Neofetch output on MX Linux 23 now features three different flavors: XFCE, KDE Plasma, and Fluxbox. These have been updated in this release with several improvements. Let’s take a quick look at each of them.

MX Linux 23 features XFCE 4.18, which boasts file manager improvements, desktop/panel changes, new wallpapers and more. If KDE Plasma is your preferred choice, you’ll be glad to know that MX Linux 23 comes equipped with Plasma 5.27. It features a new welcome app, improved Discover, Flatpak permissions, better multi-monitor support, and more. And if you’re a Fluxbox fan, then MX Linux 23 has got you covered with Fluxbox 1.3.7, which has new configuration options, and a special ‘appfinder’ config for rofi that replaces ‘xfce4-appfinder’.

Updated Software Suite

MX Linux 23 also comes with an updated software suite, which comprises Nala for MX-Updater, PipeWire/WirePlumber for managing audio and video throughout the system. Additionally, it includes a new application, “User Installed Packages”, which generates a file with a list of packages installed by the user on one system. This file can then be used for installing the same packages on another system. Other enhancements include the inclusion of the UFW firewall by default, the addition of the orca screen reader in every edition, and various MX apps have been updated with bug fixes and improvements.
